Usman Alkali BabaInspector General of Police
IGP Alkali Baba Usman is the current Inspector General of Police, Nigeria Police Force, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
IGP Alkali has a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Ed) in Political Science from Bayero University, Kano and Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Maiduguri in 1997. He was commissioned into the Nigeria Police Force on 15th March, 1988 as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.
IGP Alkali Baba Usman has served as the Deputy Inspector General of Police in-Charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Deputy Inspector General of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, Assistant Inspector General of Police (Force Secretary), Assistant Inspector General of Police in-Charge of Zone 4 (Makurdi), Zone 5 (Benin), and Zone 7 (Abuja). He equally served as Assistant Inspector General of Police in-Charge of the Force Maritime Unit (FMU), Assistant Inspector General of Police in-Charge of Federal Operations (FEDOPS) Abuja, Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command. He was also a Directing Staff at the prestigious Police Staff College, Kuru, Jos, among several others. He holds the unique service record of having served in Commands/Formations across the entire Six (6) Geopolitical Zones of the country, prior to his appointment as the Inspector General of Police on 6th April, 2021.
Since his assumption of Office as the 21st indigenous Nigeria Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba has made steady strides in internal security management especially in the Nigeria Police’s strategies targeted at anti-secessionists elements, Bandits, kidnappers and other violent crimes in the Country. He has also introduced major reforms that are directed at the restoration of Police primacy in the Internal Security architecture of Nigeria.
IGP Alkali’s Policing Vision is to engage intelligence-led, citizen-driven, technology-guided, and inter-agency collaborative approach in law enforcement. He is a courageous, calm, incorruptible, disciplined Officer with clear vision and deep knowledge of policing dynamics in Nigeria.
He has won several professional awards including the Best Anti-Crime Security Chief by Security Watch Africa in 2016; and Inspector-General of Police’s Letter of Commendation as the Best Commissioner of Police in Crime Fighting for his motivational leadership and effective anti-crime strategies emplaced towards restoring public confidence while in charge of Delta State Police Command. He is a holder of the Nigeria Police Medal (NPM).
IGP Alkali has attended several police courses both in Nigeria and abroad some of which include Junior and Senior Command Course at the Police Staff College Jos, Higher Management Course at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, and the Management of Personnel through Corrective Discipline Conferences at the International Association of Chiefs of Police, San Diego, USA as well as Strategic Management Course at the National Defence College, Nigeria.
He is a fellow of the National Defence College and a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
IGP Baba is happily married and blessed with children. His hobbies include reading and watching documentaries.
